Welcome to

Agora

Agora is an intersectional feminist social enterprise spearheaded by Glasgow-based artists Séania Strain and AJ Duncan.

For the past year, we have been on a mission to open up a feminist creative space in Glasgow where we can showcase local artists work, run creative workshops, host pop-ups and networking events.

On June 1st we picked up the keys to our very first home for Agora and we cannot wait to get started and share it with you all!

Here’s a timeline of everything we’ve been to to get us to where we are now!

April 2026

In April we had the Girly Pop AF market with SpeckyWeeFanny at Boxhub where we had all the girliest stall holders come sell their creations.

March 2026

In March we celebrated our favourite holiday - International Womens Day. We worked with feminist artist extraordinaire Anna Burgess to pull together a huge exhibition showcasing the work of 38 women and gender non-conforming artists. Since we had the gallery for a few days this let us do a wee test run of of Agora; we had a drop-in collage workshop, a pop-up library from the women’s library, a feminist life drawing class and a ‘girl mess’ life drawing class.

February 2026

In February we ran a collection of Valentines-themed events putting a spotlight on friendships and cherishing them as much as romantic relationships. We did an open call for local performers to take part in “Cupids Cabaret” where we had cowboy drag, singing, puppetry, poetry and comedy. We also ran a Valentines Collage card making night where people brought photos of loved ones and made little gift. Finally we had Thrift for a Gift where we encouraged people to come by preloved items and clothes as a valentines gift for their loved ones.

January 2026

After months of applying for funding and waiting for commercial properties to get back to us, we decided to just get stuck back into workshops again and keep widening our community and keeping up the spirit of Agora. The lovely Omar facilitated a block of linoprinting workshops at Stereo Bar. Working with Omar allowed us to expand our audience and bring more men into Agora which we really value. More feminist men please! (ps Agora welcomes people of any gender as long as their views align with intersectional feminism).

September 2025

By September we had viewed and applied for 3 commercial units which ultimately were all not meant to be! In the meantime, we collaborated with the lovely VERSE on Deanston Drive to run weekly “sketch clubs” and hosted our first thrift event at The Vic, where we invited a bunch of local vintage sellers to come sell their wares. All the money we raised from each of these events went straight into a pot to get a unit for Agora.

August 2025

In August we decided hey, let’s throw an end of summer fundraiser club night? We could do that right? So we got in touch with St Judes and organized the most Y2K girly school disco vibes club night and we christened her’Sunburnt’.

March 2025

The first ever Agora event took place within AJ’s solo show “Girl Talk” in March 2025, where we decided to run our first workshop together! This was the most gorgeous night set up in the centre of the exhibition, surrounded by art having a gossip and drawing still life based on the theme of “Girl Mess” which consisted of the contents of our bedrooms splayed on the table with candles, flowers, bras. tampons etc. Girl Mess is still one of our favourite events to run today!
